Case study: How Radisson Hotel in Kołobrzeg reduced housekeeping costs by 15% by implementing thank you bags for opting out of cleaning. The Radisson Resort Hotel in Kołobrzeg, aiming to reduce the operational costs of its housekeeping department and strengthen its eco-friendly image, partnered with Saketos for the supply of bags needed for their eco campaign. Here, we present the details of our collaboration and the results achieved by the hotel.

Collaboration between Radisson Hotels and Saketos

In the interest of environmental protection and effective budget management, Radisson decided to implement a clever solution aimed at reducing the consumption of natural resources and operational costs – bags encouraging guests to opt-out of daily room cleaning. The first hotel in this international chain approached Saketos in 2017. Over time, more properties joined our regular clients, some through positive recommendations from managers who already use this solution, while others found our website through search engines and decided to collaborate due to our quick order fulfilment, the ability to custom-make bags, and competitive prices.

Bags Chosen by Radisson Hotels

Radisson Hotels draw inspiration from the Scandinavian lifestyle. Their operations are based on three key pillars.
Each Radisson hotel must be:

  • sustainable
  • natural
  • delightful

In Hospitality, Details Matter – at Saketos Too

All activities carried out by the properties must align with the brand’s principles – every action and the smallest detail must harmonise with its philosophy.
The hotel management team is also well aware that in hospitality, details matter greatly.

We want to provide delightful hotel experiences.
It is these small touches that guests remember, creating lasting special memories.

As a supplier, we had to provide products that are not only practical but also match the hotel’s image and conform to the overall strategy. At Saketos, we also believe that details are crucial. The reusable bags we make perfectly fit the Radisson network’s principles.

Our range includes pouches made from natural fabrics such as linen and cotton. Their colours and minimalist design perfectly complement Scandinavian-style interiors, and their long-term reusability aligns with the hotel’s eco-friendly initiatives.

Meeting Diverse Needs

Radisson Hotels that have chosen us as their supplier, although part of the same network, have different needs.
There is no room for compromises here; our clients usually know their needs very well and have clearly defined expectations. Depending on individual agreements, a client manager helps select bags from various fabrics and in different sizes, each time adjusting the type of packaging to the specific needs of a particular property. We also offer samples, which are very helpful in choosing the size of the packaging for non-standard gifts (e.g., various regional products given as gifts by some Radisson hotels).

Eco Reward Gift – Bags for Opting Out of Room Cleaning

As part of our collaboration with the Radisson hotel chain, we regularly supply cotton, linen, and burlap bags in several sizes. The hotels use these in their “Eco Reward Gift” initiative. The pouches are personalised with printed instructions for the campaign (text in two languages): guests find an empty bag in their room and learn that they can hang it on the door handle to inform the staff that they are opting out of room cleaning for the day. As a thank you for this eco-friendly action, the staff leaves a sweet treat in the bag.
This initiative not only reduces the use of chemicals and water (needed for room cleaning, laundry of bed linens and towels), but also engages guests in environmental protection. It is an excellent example of how Radisson promotes eco-friendly behaviour among its guests. The hotel fulfils the commitment stated on the network’s website:

We all care about the climate together.
At Radisson, we believe that even the smallest action can help protect our planet.
We offer various initiatives and encourage everyone to join our people- and nature-friendly campaigns.

Effectiveness of the Initiative

The “Eco Reward Gift” initiative has proven effective both in engaging guests in eco-friendly actions and in reducing operational costs (lower housekeeping costs). Through this solution, the hotel not only enhances its eco-friendly image but also enjoys positive feedback from its guests.

Collaboration between Radisson Resort Kołobrzeg and Saketos

Among the hotels that have ordered bags as part of implementing new eco-friendly practices is Radisson Resort Kołobrzeg. This 4-star hotel is located on the Baltic Sea and offers guests 209 rooms. Ms Żaneta Ćwityńska, the housekeeping manager, contacted us. Upon reaching out to Saketos, she was assigned to Marzena Szydłowska, the client manager responsible for servicing Radisson hotels. Below, we present the details of our collaboration and the results achieved by the hotel.

Main Goal and Challenge – Reducing Housekeeping Costs

The primary goal of the collaboration was to implement a solution that would help the hotel operate more eco-friendly and contribute to a reduction in housekeeping costs.
One of the main challenges for the hotel was the high cost of service associated with daily room cleaning and the high laundry costs resulting from daily changes of bed linens and towels. The hotel needed a solution to reduce these costs while maintaining a high standard of guest service.

Solution

Radisson Resort Kołobrzeg was aware of the positive effects of the “Eco Reward Gift” initiative, previously tested in other Radisson hotels in Poland and Germany. Small gifts encouraged many guests to opt for less frequent room cleaning and reduced the frequency of linen and towel changes. Thanks to this eco initiative, the service costs were lowered, and the use of water and detergents was reduced. The hotel management in Kołobrzeg decided to implement this solution in their property.

Implementation Process

After contacting Ms Żaneta Ćwityńska, the hotel’s needs and requirements for the bags were determined. After several discussions, we confirmed that our bags met all the hotel’s needs. The key criteria in this case were: the ability to personalise the pouches, fitting within the client’s budget, an eco design consistent with the brand’s environmental philosophy, reusability, easy hanging on door handles, product availability, and fast order fulfilment.

Marzena Szydłowska, the client manager in our company, recalls:

From the very beginning of our collaboration with the Radisson hotel, we knew that the key element would not only be delivering high-quality products but also aligning with their ecological standards. This was a great opportunity for us to demonstrate how our bags can support sustainable development in the hospitality industry.

Results – Lower Housekeeping Costs

Radisson Kołobrzeg chose linen-like bags from Saketos because they perfectly align with the hotel’s principles – a reusable bag made from durable material in a natural colour, personalised with a print provided by the client. During the collaboration, various gifts were tested, and the hotel ultimately settled on 12×15 cm bags containing fit muesli bars.
The Radisson Hotel observed a significant 15% reduction in cleaning costs. Our pouches not only helped reduce laundry costs but were also well received by hotel guests. Guests have responded positively to the hotel’s new eco-initiatives, with children particularly enjoying the treats. Thanks to this ecological initiative, the hotel has also gained favour with guests, who increasingly appreciate eco-friendly actions. Financial savings and the increase in customer satisfaction confirm the effectiveness of the implemented changes.

Thanks to this initiative, Radisson Resort Kołobrzeg not only achieved its goals but also contributed to promoting sustainable development in the hospitality industry.

We are pleased that Saketos, as a supplier of high-quality products, played such an important role in the success of this project. Marzena Szydłowska summarises:

Our collaboration with the Radisson hotel is a perfect example of how, by understanding the client’s needs and being flexible in our approach to various client requirements, we can achieve great results together. We are proud that our pouches have become part of such an important ecological initiative.

Continued Collaboration and a New Project

The Radisson Hotel has been using thank-you drawstring bags for opting out of room cleaning for quite some time. The client is pleased with both the results of implementing this solution (a 15% reduction in housekeeping costs) and the quality of Saketos products and services. The hotel plans to place further orders for the bags. The client has decided to order custom bags made from high-quality velvet, entirely sewn in Poland. This repeat order is further evidence of the effectiveness and versatility of our drawstring bags.
