Organising the children’s room

How to organise the children’s room?

Get rid of excess toys

Getting rid of unused toys is the most important step towards general tidiness.

  1. Bin broken or incomplete toys.
  2. Sell or give away toys that your kid has grown out of.
  3. That also goes for unused toys in good condition – sell them or give them away.
  4. As for toys that your kid doesn’t play with but finds hard to part with, ones that are out of season at the moment (sledges in summer or beach toys in winter), or ones for which your kid is still too young – earmark them.

Divide the room into zones

Demarcating zones in the children’s room will make it much easier to keep things tidy. There should be three basic zones in the room:

  • one for sleep and rest,
  • one for learning (in a small child’s room – a reading and art corner),
  • and one for play.

It’s absolutely worth looking at this idea in more detail. Having separate spaces for specific activities will improve the child’s concentration and make it easier for them to keep things in order. You’ll be surprised by the huge benefits of these changes!

Organising the play area

As far as the child’s play area goes, it’s a good idea to designate themed sub-zones, i.e. a specific space for each toy category (see ideas for storing small toys). If each item has a specific place, the child will learn to keep things tidy without too much difficulty.

Storing building blocks – cool ideas

Anyone who has even once stepped barefoot on a Lego brick knows how important it is to keep them in order. Do you want to have some control over your kid’s collection?

Discover our ideas for storing building blocks:

  1. First of all… shelves and racks.4 It’s a good idea to place assembled sets of blocks on open shelves. A child with free access to toys is more likely to play with them. What’s also important, the colourful constructions will make a great decoration for the children’s room!
  2. Containers – you can keep the supply of unused blocks in transparent containers, divided into categories (you can separate them by sets or divide them applying the following pattern: regular building blocks, vehicle elements, additional components, minifigures, and construction tiles). Some, however, prefer to divide them according to colour. So, we recommend testing different solutions!
  3. Inside the containers, you can divide the blocks into more precise subcategories. Just put them in small bags. As far as this way to store toys goes, organza bags will work perfectly – they are semi-transparent, so you can see their contents.
  4. Bag-mat – a convenient solution! When the blocks are being used, it serves as a comfortable carpet for the child, and when the play is finished, it’s enough to pull the strings and move the package with the blocks to the right place.
  5. A fabric bag for blocksjute bags, linen bags, or cotton sacks will be perfect for storing children’s blocks. The pouch’s drawstring will prevent the blocks from spilling out and make it easy to carry them. These multi-purpose bags can also be used as sleek packaging for children’s artwork and keepsakes.
